Botanical Gardens
| Melanie's an avid gardener so I suggested we head for the Botanical Gardens in the East End. Secretly I had plans to visit another Montreal landmark. |
We like out-of-town home games. Unfortunately this weekend's Expos home opener was held in Puerto Rico. I thought it would be cool to go up in the tower - it's part of the big ticket Gardens tour. I brushed up on my English at the kiosk. "Is the tower open?" "Park closes at 4:30." "Cool. Two tickets for the tower package." "The tower is closed for the summer." Summer. I'm freezing here; the ball club is still in the Carribbean. Gimme the cheap tour. |

The greenhouses are still the best bet in April. It's warm in there... and humid. Coat off. Foot space is limited and the parade moves pretty slowly in spots. |

Aha. Everybody's pausing for the orchids. When in Rome... |

The Living Baseball. How ironic. I wonder if they're pitching plaid horsehide in San Juan today. |

The big attraction this weekend is the butterfly bonanza happening in the far greenhouse. Thousands of exotic butterflies mingling with the crowd, world music pulsing. If they'd just stop flapping for a second I could get a good photo... |

It's a nice place to visit on a Sunday. But by the end of the tour I felt a strange magnetism tugging me to the waterfront... |
